Sheikh Mohammed Approves Plans for Expo City Dubai Masterplan

Dubai has announced ambitious plans for a major expansion of Expo City as part of its next phase of development.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved a new master plan for Expo City, which will play a central role in the emirate’s future development and enhance Dubai's global stature.

The site of the historic 2020 World Expo and COP28, Expo City will act as a key driver of Dubai’s progress across various sectors, from real estate to tourism.

Expo City Dubai Urban Plan

The expansion of Expo City firmly positions it as a pivotal part of Dubai’s growth, providing major investment opportunities for forward-thinking entities.

Located near Al Maktoum International Airport, Jebel Ali Port, and the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), Expo City is a crucial element in Dubai’s goals for critical sectors such as trade, technology, tourism, and business.

The plan is integral to Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the size of the emirate’s economy by 2033.

Sheikh Mohammed remarked:
“Ten years ago, we laid the foundation for a new city within Dubai—a city that would host the world, promote innovation and sustainability, and lead the UAE into a new era of prosperity.”

He continued:
“Expo City Dubai is the heart of our city’s growth and a hub for pioneers, entrepreneurs, and innovators. It is a community that blends heritage with the vision of a future filled with unlimited opportunities.”

Expo City’s Five Key Districts

Expo City Dubai will be structured into five distinct zones:

  1. Expo Hills – Located to the north, this will feature low-density residential areas.
  2. Expo Fields – In the south, this zone will focus on healthy living, with schools, sports fields, and open performance spaces.
  3. Expo Business – A campus-like environment for innovative businesses, including the Emirates Group’s Ebdaa aviation hub.
  4. Expo Downtown – A dense urban district extending from the metro station, anchored by the iconic Al Wasl dome and featuring the Terra Gardens and Terra Tower.
  5. Expo Forest – A natural environment linking Expo City to Expo Valley, offering social amenities and recreational spaces.

A Global Centre for Investment and Innovation

Expo City will span 3.5 sq km and become home to more than 35,000 residents and 40,000 professionals, cementing its status as a global hub for business, investors, and homeowners.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, noted:
“Expo City Dubai represents the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to build a future-ready city that drives sustainability, seizes opportunities, and constantly enhances the quality of life.”

New Headquarters for DP World and Dubai Exhibition Centre Expansion

The new master plan includes the global headquarters for DP World and a major expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), a key pillar of the city’s economic growth.

DEC has announced plans to triple its venue size by 2033, turning it into the largest indoor exhibition space in the region, further strengthening Dubai’s position as a global hub for business and innovation.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, emphasized the importance of the Dubai Logistics Corridor, which connects Jebel Ali Port to Al Maktoum International Airport, reducing sea-air transfer time to less than one hour—revolutionizing trade for global businesses.

This new plan underscores Dubai’s unwavering commitment to innovation, sustainability, and economic leadership on the global stage, solidifying Expo City as a major cornerstone of the city's future.'
